RCEF MINUTES – REGULAR MEETING – August 16, 2022 

Call to Order 

*Meeting called to order by President Mary Patterson, 6:30 p.m. at Ravenna Lumber Company.  

Roll Call 

*Also attending were trustees Mike Pierson, Justin Wilson, Mary Arends, Gina Schulz, Hailey Mabrito and Paul Borgman; absent: Adam Sheridan, Scott McFarren, Jason Helsen.  

Approval of the Agenda 

*The agenda was unanimously approved on motion by Mary Arends with support from Paul.  

Approval of Minutes  

*Minutes of the April 12, 2022 meeting were unanimously approved on motion by Mike with support from Mary Arends.  Finance Report-Jason was absent-no finance report although Mary reported that the fund balance as of June 30, 2022 was  $274,707.28, down significantly from it’s peak of will over $300,000.  

*The family of DiAnn Patterson named RCEF for memorial donations and $3,370 was presented to RCEF. Old Business 

Community Celebration-May 14 had many high points with areas to be improved.  

*Awards ceremony at Citizen’s Field went very well, but a smaller crowd than what we would have liked.  New Business 

*Board unanimously approved grant requests (approved via e-mail) from Tracey Jacobs for Zekelman Holocaust Center $498; Clark  Kantola-Seasonal Changes $172.91; Celebration of Learning-$500 on motion by Mike, support Paul.  *Board unanimously denied grant requests (denied via e-mail) from Wesley Vermeer-Rural Technology and Peyton Block-FLIR  Thermal Camera on motion by Mary Arends, support Gina. Mary Patterson will recommend to them that they re-submit showing  how a broader range of students might benefit. 

*Grant request from Katie Payne-Mentor Textbooks, was denied via e-mail. Some trustees were not comfortable with the content.  Trustees agreed to refer the matter to the building librarian for approval of particular books on motion by Justin, support Gina. Notes… 

RCEF Donor Sign-Justin said that with the frame, it would not fit in the pre-determined space in the gym hallway. Mary Patterson  recommended getting Ken Patterson Sr. on the project to make a frame that would fit in the space.  

2022 Scholarship Recipients-were Haley Cox and Becca Straley.  

Denny Emery-resignation letter was read. Thanks to Denny for his valued service.  

*Trustees agreed to ask Josh Emery if he would serve as a trustee. Mary Patterson will contact him.  

School Opening-Mike will attend and present the RCEF information.  

Fund Raisers– were discussed. Paul suggested having a comedy night at Nutt Meadows on a Saturday night. Gina noted that the GR  Public Museum would get most raffle items, food and drink for their events donated. We will explore the possibility of having an event either February 4 or March 4 and report back in October.  

Total Grants-in 2021-2022 $4,346.34. 

*Next Meeting-was set for Tuesday October 11, 6:30 p.m. at Ravenna Lumber Company.
